"Cold Hands...Warm Heart"

I've woken up to the cold, wet, windy Saturday morning, and I feel sad, very sad. It seems as though on the cusp of every accomplishment there is defeat again. I'm speaking of my son Eric.
I was so happy for him this time. This time seemed different. Perhaps as he gets older he is learning that having patience is priceless. He's working, too, which is such an accomplishment in today's world. He's even putting money aside...for the big day. The day he will be a free man again!
I just received a picture of my daughter and son today. They were standing so close together, with Eric's arm around her shoulders....a real "big brother" gesture. Tears of happiness fell from my eyes when I saw the photo. My tears are two-fold, though, for defeat has struck again. Eric's complacency with his situation, his inability to say no, and his lack of vision of the "big picture" has swept him away again. Never mind the fact that I haven't seen him face to face since 1997, just before his 20th birthday, I don't know now when I'll see him again. I was just beginning to think that John and I should go back for a visit when he is free. That would have been within the next two years. It would be such a good feeling to get hugged by my son and daughter at once! My secret desire would be to cook them a dinner, and all of us sit down and eat together! But, now that's not going to happen.
My hands get cold when I'm typing in winter...and today, my heart is bursting with the love I want to send to Eric. If only he wanted for himself what I want for him.....

Birthdays And Beyond

John and I both have survived our birthdays, and we're keeping ourselves sheltered from the rain and cold of a New Zealand winter. We're looking forward to hearing the adventurous tales of Europe from John's sister Linda and her husband Rex. They've just returned from their "post-honeymoon" honeymoon! We love it when they come up to stay with us from New Plymouth, NZ.(I must post a map sometime of NZ.)
New Plymouth was just voted the best city to live in in NZ! It has its own snow-capped mountain,Mt.Egmont, and beautiful black sand beaches looking out at the Tasman Sea.
I'll be so glad when school gets out on July 3rd. That will be the end of term 2. School is closed for two weeks, and the cleaners, of which I am one, get cracking....giving everything the works over, making it nice for the kids to return to! But it's the part after I finish my 15 hours that I am looking forward to. That's the time I have to catch up with our house chores and outside winter dead heading and weeding. Sounds like fun? Well, it is in a way!
John and I thought seriously about going on vacation in the next two months, but I think we have talked ourselves out of it for a bit longer. I think the next vacation for us will be Hawaii.
The weather this weekend is supposed to be really bad storms with heaps of rain all over the country, but so far we've been spared! Luckily I've just finished all the laundry yesterday...."makin' hay while the sun shines!"
I have 6 little eyes looking up at me when I'm on my computer for very long! hehehe
My own little fan club....or as I say, my flock of poodles! They are bored, I guess, with winter slowing all oudoor playing down to just little bits of fetch here and there.
I'll finish this post with a bit of prose from my unpublished works...."Sidewalks and Stairways" called, "You're One With The Angels". I wrote this for my daughter, Mary, because she has always woken up early and often wished she could sleep late like her brother, Eric, always seemed to do!

You're One With The Angels

Just out of the corner of your eye you can see it
In a flash it will be there...then gone.
The morning does bring them,
A gift from the Heavens,
From every tear a new angel is born.

You must be early to feel all the magic
That sprinkles the Earth just at dawn.
Why do you think all the birds chirp at sunrise?
They are singing the new angels' songs!

Some people race past them, never stop to
Look for them,
Never listen to what they have to say.
Sometimes they're stepped on, their
Wings all a crumpled,
But they love us all anyway.

They know their purpose, and they know their Maker,
And they know that they're here to stay.
They know we're fickle, and we often stumble,
And we don't even know how to pray.

If you are kissed by an angel, you'll wake up
Early, and you'll see the darkness fade.
For you've been invited by a most precious presence,
To something special...an angel parade!

Simple Beauty

Hello there! Today I took my camera with me and headed to Mangonui Four Square shop. It's windy and quite chilly, saved only by the sun shining through in bursts all morning.
I took heaps of photos, and have put them into albums in my FaceBook site.
Hope you enjoy them!

Our Poodles

Winter Veggies Tour

Hi, our garden area is terraced and easy on your back, and this our first time growing winter type veggies. Since it doesn't fall below freezing here, we can grow a lot of different types of veggies....if you can keep the caterpillars at bay! We are doing it without sprays, so I pick the little green leaf munchers off by hand!
